This corn and squash companion planting is growing in soil amended with regenerative compost and liquid extracts, biodiverse in fungi and microbes. The perennial ground cover mix keeps the soil moist and protected from the hot sun and expands the area with roots in the soil. Both the crops and the perennial cover generously exude photosynthetic produce from their roots, while happy fungal and microbial life  receive this gift, in turn dissolving minerals from the soil matrix, supplying the plant’s root zone with the wide array of nutrients they need to be vigorous, nutrient-dense and disease resistant.
